World Champion Ferrari 458 Testing At Castellet

Testing at France’s Le Castellet track are underway today and tomorrow for the FIA WEC, the World Endurance Championship that gets under way on April 20 at Silverstone. The tests will involve Ferrari with the 458 GT2 that won the constructors title in 2013. The teams’ world championship was instead won by AF Corse, which will again take part in the LMGTE Pro category this year with two 458s in the hands of a pair of experienced drivers and a duo of talented youngsters respectively. In one car, the number 51, "Gimmi" Bruni, who became the world drivers champion with the same AF Corse Ferrari, and Finland’s Toni Vilander, the long-time standard bearer of the Prancing Horse who was part of the trio who took on the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2012. In the other 458 GT2, number 71, there will be Davide Rigon, who has been a Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 test driver since 2012 and a fixture in this year’s World Endurance Championship, and British debutant James Calado, a talent who came third in the last GP2 championship and who has already sampled Formula 1 with Force India.

Both teams will be joined by an outstanding third driver for the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 14 and 15. Bruni and Vilander will again make up their 2012 dream team with Giancarlo Fisichella, who is this year taking part in the American USCC series in the 458 run by the Risi Competizione team. The youngsters Rigon and Calado can instead draw on the experience of Monaco’s Olivier Beretta, who used to race in Formula 1 with Larrousse and has racked up six victories in the GT category of the classic French endurance race.
