2014 Malaysia GP: Formula One F1 Race Results - Hamilton, Mercedes Win!

By Mike Sulka

Under the threat of rain, Mercedes Formula One F1 driver Lewis Hamilton strolled to a dominant win at the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix. For Hamilton, it it his first win of the 2014 season and 23rd victory of his Formula One F1 career - 55th career podium. It was also Hamilton's first win at the Sepang International Circuit, and first win since the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton also had the fastest lap of the race - 1:43.066.

For Mercedes, its was the team's second victory of the year, and 15th all-time as a constructor.

In second, Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes would make a great start from third to overtake four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and his No. 1 Red Bull. For Rosberg, it is his second podium of the 2014 Formula One F1 season, and 13th of his career.

Sebastian Vettel would finish third after an early fight with his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. For Vettel, it is his first podium of the 2014 season and 63rd of his career which breaks a tie with David Coulthard for seventh on the all-time list.

Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 Ferrari had an exciting fight with Hulkenberg in the closing laps to finish fourth. Nico Hulkenberg and his No. 27 Force India used an alternate tyre strategy to move up to fifth after starting seventh.

Kimi Raikkonen suffered a puncture after a coming together with McLaren's Kevin Magnussen on lap two which left the Finn at the back of the field. Raikkonen would finish out of the points.

In other opening action, Jules Bianchi (Marussia) and Pastor Maldonado (Williams) came together at Turn Four with both cars eventually retiring.

Daniel Ricciardo was driving brilliantly until a comedy of errors retired his entry. First was a loose wheel nut during a pitstop, and then his front wing broke loose to force an end to his day.

Sergio Perez (Force India) who was scheduled to start with the hard compound, but he retired in pitlane due to technical issues with the gearbox.

Next up, the Formula One F1 series will race at the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix in next weekend.
