2014 NHRA: Spencer Massey SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals Event Results: Second Round

On paper it seems that the Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher team is stuck in a second-round rut. But that's not the case according to driver Spencer Massey.

At the beginning of the season they fought consistency issues, but at Gainesville the team got stronger despite a second round loss and the strength continued at this weekend's 15th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"We just had an issue on that run that caused us to smoke the tires early," Spencer said. "It's just disappointing. I saw Tony go up in smoke and have to pedal and there was nothing I could do about it. We just needed to go down the race track there and we probably would've turned on the win light."

But Massey highlighted their four out of six passes down the strip.

"But the good news is we feel like we're finally getting our hot rod back. We made four good full pulls here this weekend so that gives us confidence.

"We had a really good weekend and the car was responding to the changes Phil (Shuler) and Todd (Okuhara) were making so that's huge. It's being pretty consistent right now and that's huge."

Massey is looking forward defending his title in two weeks at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

"We're going to Charlotte next and we have a pretty good track record there so we're ready. We need to get four win lights under our belts and get our first Wally of the season early."
