Valencia Test Day 2: Auto GP Rookies Lead The Way

Some new names led the Auto GP charts on Day 2 of the series' collective test at Valencia. After Tamas Pal Kiss led the way on Day 1 for Zele Racing and beat the Spanish track's record, Sam Dehonghe successfully lowered the limit for Virtuosi UK, logging a personal best lap of 1'20"741. The Belgian led the way in the morning to edge German Super Nova International racer Markus Pommer, also making his debut aboard the 550-horsepower Auto GP car. Third place overall was Pal Kiss for Zele Racing who also led the afternoon segment.

Kimiya Sato was fourth fastest for Euronova Racing before having to leave for Bahrain where he will make his GP2 Series debut. Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK) rounded out the top-5 from Kevin Giovesi (Puma 3 M-Sport by Eurotech).

Another rookie, Gianamarco Raimondo, had his first taste of Auto GP. The Canadian, who was a runner-up in the 2012 European Formula 3 Open and ran in selected GP2 Series rounds in 2013, showed good confidence with the Super Nova-prepared car despite having ran for only one day.

The top-10 was rounded out by Michela Cerruti (Super Nova), and rookies Loris Spinelli (Puma 3 M-Sport by Eurotech) and Richard Gonda (Virtuosi UK). The Slovakian racer, who won the Formula 3 Open Copa class in 2013, is evaluating a possible Auto GP program with Andy Roche and Declan Lohan. Giuseppe Cipriani also had a positive return for Ibiza Racing Team, as he quickly regain the right chemistry with the car after an almost year-long break.

All the sixteen participants provided a positive feedback regarding the three tire compounds brought on-track by Kumho. The 2014 Auto GP season will be starting in less than two weeks at Marrakech (April 12th and 13th).
