Carlin Burst Back To Action In Bahrain

Following two highly successful pre-season tests Carlin’s GP2 team will be back on track in Bahrain later this week for the tenth anniversary of the GP2 Series. Julián Leal and Felipe Nasr, both of whom have experience in the series, are both anticipating a strong weekend of racing ahead with new rules and regulations to contend with.

Both Nasr and Leal completed two positive and strong test programmes in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain last month where over the course of the six days, they put themselves in the perfect position ahead of the 2014 season opener. Combining race runs, qualification simulations and practice starts as well as the ever important pit stops the team head into the first round of the season looking to start the season on a high.

As the opening round of the 2014 season, the Bahrain International Circuit will see the drivers matching themselves up against one another in a race environment. And with both Carlin men already experienced around the 5.412km circuit it is likely to be tightly fought opening to the year.

For the 2014 season the GP2 Series rules and regulations have been tweaked to allow for a longer free practice session as well as the obligation to run both compounds of tyres over the course of the Feature Race on Saturday. The changes will allow the drivers more track time during the weekend while also creating a more level playing field tyre wise in both the Feature and Sprint races.

Over the course of the season the drivers will take on two new additions to the race calendar in the form of the Red Bull Ring, Austria, and Sochi, Russia. The Championship will also continue to visit classic circuits such as Monaco, Spa and Monza while the battle for wins progress.

2013 title contender Felipe Nasr looks once again to fight for championship honours, speaking ahead of the first round he said, ‘It’s the first weekend of a brand new season so it’s exciting to know we’ll be back on track again soon and I know we’re more than ready. I’m happy with the car and after a good start to our season with testing I know we can once again aim high. The aim is of course to start strong and I think we are in a good position because I know the team and the car very well.’

Team mate Julián Leal who enjoyed strong testing added, ‘We had a really good test in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi and came away with good feelings. We we’re strong in qualifying and race set-up and took a lot away ahead of this weekend and the season. Anything can happen during the first weekend but we’re ready and happy.’

Free practice gets underway for the drivers Friday 12.00 local time.
