Ralliart Italy Rally de Portugal Day Two

It was another strong day for Max Rendina in his Ralliart Italy-run Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X at Rally de Portugal as he won all six stages (SS10 notional times) in the WRC 2 Group N Cup category and extended his lead to over four and a half minutes. He also moved to the front of the Group N category battling past local Portuguese drivers familiar with the tough stages of the Algarve based event. Pleased with his advantage, Rendina slowed a little on SS12 and SS13, the final two competitive tests of the day, in order to conserve his car and make sure he reached the overnight halt safely.

With the characteristics of today’s itinerary differing from the Day One stages, Rendina had to adapt his driving style to fit the conditions once again. Demanding frequent changes of rhythm, today’s tests proved unpredictable with unexpected mud deposits that weren’t apparent during recce and rough terrain.

Having tackled today’s challenge unperturbed, Rendina is now ready to take on Day Three and is focused on taking his third Group N Cup victory in a row following equally strong outings in Monte Carlo and Mexico: “It wasn’t an easy day. My favourite stage was SS9 / 12, because it is slightly wider than the others and the rhythm it required was stable, which gave us the chance to build up a good feeling in the car. Overall, we’re happy with our performance. Our Mitsubishi ran perfectly and the team worked well throughout, inspiring us with the confidence to go out and do our best without having to worry about anything other than getting through the stages without any problems. Tomorrow’s another day, but it would be a dream to get a hat trick on our first three events outside Italy!”

Ralliart Italy Team Manager Bruno De Pianto was equally pleased with Max’s performance: “I’m impressed that Max and his co-driver Mario find it so easy to adapt. I think this is partially due to their strong relationship and confidence in one another. They face every challenge with total calm and are always ready to perform the best they can exactly when they need to. It’s really something. I’m proud to be working with them and hope they can hold on through tomorrow and we see them on the podium again!”
