Tomac, Osborne Preparing For Supercross Wins In Soft Seattle Dirt

GEICO Honda riders Eli Tomac and Zach Osborne have their minds set on podium finishes during this Saturday's Supercross event at Seattle's CenturyLink Field.

Racing in his rookie season aboard a 450, Tomac has been on a continuous learning curve in 2014, but considering his résumé of riding skills, which includes the 2013 outdoor 250 title, Seattle could be a course that will have Tomac battling for the win.

"Before the semifinals in Houston, the team and I were really able to make the bike better," Tomac said. "I was so comfortable in that race and really thought I had a chance to pull out the win (before finishing second), so I'm really looking forward to running this new setup all day when we get to Seattle.

"It's a track I'm excited to race because I really favor how it's designed. The dirt is soft, there's gonna be a lot of ruts, and it'll be super technical. I feel confident when I head to tracks like that, and Seattle is no different. I always think I can win wherever we go, but I think a win is a definite possibility in Seattle."

With a course that favors Tomac's riding style, the 2012 250SX West champion is hoping that Seattle will spark consistency in a season that has seen many ups and downs.

"There isn't much I can really change heading into Seattle," said Tomac, who has missed half of the starts this year due to injury. "This season really hasn't had much of a flow to it yet, which has been difficult. Even though the indoor season is coming to an end, I'm hoping to get in some sort of consistent groove to keep myself in the front pack."

Also plagued by injuries this season, 250SX West GEICO Honda rider Osborne made his return to action in Houston last week. After a strong race in which he finished fifth overall, he is ready to continue his comeback, fighting his way back to the top of the championship podium.

"Seattle is going to be very different from Houston," Osborne said. "I'm almost positive it will be wet, and if for some reason it's not I'm sure the dirt will be very soft. A soft course makes for a more technically-based mind-set, something I feel confident about heading into the weekend. If I just keep my focus throughout my runs, I should be in great shape for a solid finish."

Not only is Osborne preparing mentally for Seattle, he's continuing his post-injury training to ensure he is at the top of his game with the Supercross season just three races away from completion.

"Even though I was able to ride last weekend in Houston, I still have to keep working on getting back to my top competitive level," Osborne said. "I'm using this week to train as best as I can to get ready for Seattle.

"You have to come out swinging every weekend for wins, especially when you have been off the bike for a few weeks. I rode well all day in Houston, except for one section that gave me trouble. All I can do is take the positive and keep doing my thing throughout the entire day. I'm a part of a really good program, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do in Seattle."

FOX Sports 1 will air the race live in its entirety beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT, Saturday.
