On Friday, Sorenson and teammate Michael Annett visited the Dallas Fire Department where they met with Sons of The Flag and 60 first responders. Sons of The Flag is a resource for burn victims ranging from military and first responders to civilians that focuses on providing funding for innovative research.

Sorenson spoke about the safety precautions that are taken to protect him on race day and the importance and ease that the first responders create by being at the track every weekend. After Sorenson spoke, Omar Avila who was burned during his military deployment in Iraq, spoke to the room.

"My recovery has been slow and painful. Today, I am under the care of Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and work with other military burn survivors to help them deal with their wounds and their scars, and to find hope in life again," said Avila in his speech. Avila is a beacon of hope for many burn survivors to show them that there is hope that life can return to a new sense of normal.

Starting the race in 38th position, Sorenson and Crew Chief Todd Parrott knew the change in track conditions would make for a challenging race. As they worked to find the right feel of the car, long green flag runs and few cautions narrowed the window for adjustments. Crossing the finish line in 33rd.

"Thanks guys for everything this weekend," Sorenson said post-race. "We're going to keep working hard, and eventually it will pay off."
