I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT

Mr. Consistency: What Sprint Cup driver has two top-fives and one other top-10 finish in the last four races? Brad Keselowski? Dale Earnhardt Jr.? Jimmie Johnson? Jeff Gordon? Kyle Busch? If you picked Kyle Busch, you were kind of half-right. Hard as it may seem to believe, Sprint Cup rookie Kyle Larson has been the hottest and most consistent driver in the series since Bristol four races ago.

Old School: Darlington Raceway hosted the first 500-mile race in NASCAR history and the first on asphalt on Sept. 4, 1950. – won by Johnny Mantz. There were 75 cars that started that first 500 mile race, opposed to a max of 43 cars that will start the Bojangles Southern 500 this week. In 1950 the pole winning speed was 82.034 mph, the track qualifying record set in May 2013 was nearly 100 mph faster at 181.918 mph. The average race winning speed in 1950 was just 75.250 mph, Matt Kenseth’s race winning pace in 2013 was 141.383 mph.

TWEET OF THE WEEK

@KyleLarsonRacin: Really good day for us. @Target @TeamChevy was fast all race long. Proud of my team for making our car way better throughout the weekend.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR DARLINGTON RACEWAY

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 Cessna Team

Texas Wrap Up: After a one day delay for rain, the Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) got underway on Monday afternoon and the overcast skies gave way to a sunny day of racing action for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS). Jamie McMurray, driving the Bell Helicopter Chevrolet SS ran among the top-10 for the first 204 laps until suffering a cut tire. The No. 1 team would battle back from one lap down to post a 17th place finish.

McMurray at Darlington: McMurray has 13 career starts at Darlington Raceway, where he has accumulated five top-10 and three top-five finishes. Driver of the No.1 Chevrolet SS has one career pole (May 8, 2010) and has completed 4460 of 4630 (96.3%) laps of competition, leading 163 laps in those 13 races. McMurray has only one DNF (did not finish) and has finished on the lead lap in 9 of 13 races.

Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team

Texas Recap: For the first time all season, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) was unable to run the race on Sunday due to rain, subsequently holding the Duck Commander 500 on Monday afternoon. The delay, however, did not slow down Kyle Larson and Team Target in the slightest. Although the car was not where the teamed wanted it to be during Friday’s practice session, the crew worked hard to put a very fast Target Chevy on the track for Monday’s race. After starting in the 14th position, Larson managed to race into the top-10 by lap 59, and stayed there throughout the race before finishing in fifth place.

Larson at Darlington: Larson, who has no prior NSCS starts at Darlington, does have one previous start at the track that came in last year’s NNS race. After starting in seventh position, Larson finished the NNS race just outside the top-five in sixth place.

White Night: For the first time this season, the No. 42 Target Chevrolet will feature a white paint scheme that fades into red on the rear of the Target Chevy. The white paint scheme will be run for all of the night races this season. Although several races have been forced to run under the lights at night due to weather, the Bojangles Southern 500 is the first scheduled night race of the season.

Powered by Protein: Kyle Larson and the Target team are proud to be powered by the Oscar Mayer brand this weekend to help introduce P3 – Portable Protein Pack, to the NASCAR community. The packs of meat, cheese and nuts are designed for active consumers looking for a snack to help keep them going throughout the day. It is a perfect fit with the on-the-go lifestyle of NASCAR drivers and crews. P3 will be featured on the team’s firesuits as well as on the quarter panel of the No. 42 Target Chevy.
