2014 Darlington: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Darlington Stripe...Justin Allgaier will be making his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Darlington Raceway this weekend in the No. 51 Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Chevy. The NSCS rookie has raced at the track affectionately known as "Too Tough To Tame" five times in his Nationwide Series career. Allgaier has two top-five and three top-10 finishes at the 1.366-mile track and has led 31 laps.

Welcome Aboard...This weekend, the No. 51 will sport a new paint scheme. Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes will adorn the hood, along with Sherwin-Williams product AWX Performance Plus Waterborne Refinish System on the quarter-panel. AWX Performance Plus Waterborne basecoat is an easy-to-apply, fast-drying basecoat that provides excellent color match while meeting the strictest VOC limits in North America.

Off-Week Testing...Allgaier and the No. 51 team will head to Kansas Speedway on Sunday evening after the Bojangles Southern 500 for a Goodyear tire test on Monday, April 14. The test is in preparation for the NSCS race at the 1.5-mile track under the lights on Saturday, May 10.

Texas Recap...Allgaier made his first NSCS start at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday after rain postponed the race originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Allgaier qualified 22nd for the Duck Commander 500, his best start this season, and finished in the 24th position for HScott Motorsports.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Texas, Allgaier is currently third in the standings behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Darlington Raceway:
"I'm excited to get to Darlington [Raceway] this weekend. I enjoy racing under the lights and Darlington is one of my favorite tracks. It's one of the unique tracks on the circuit that is extra special given its history and how difficult it is to drive. This will be my first time there in a Sprint Cup car, but hopefully I can avoid the infamous Darlington stripe. We had a good qualifying effort at Texas last weekend, so I'm hoping to build on that again this weekend. My guys are working really, really hard and we continue to improve each weekend."

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Darlington Raceway:
"We've been making progress each week with Justin. Darlington is one of the harder tracks for a rookie, but he's been there in a Nationwide car so that's helpful. Hopefully we can keep Darlington stripes off of the car and we'll be good to go this weekend."

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former Nationwide Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
