2014 Darlington: Michael Annett NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Michael Annett and the No. 7 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS will compete in one of auto racing's crown jewel events this Saturday night, the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. This weekend's race marks the only time the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series makes a stop to the egg-shaped 1.366-mile track home to some of the most hard-fought finishes in NASCAR's storied history.

Annett, a Rookie of the Year candidate, and his Tommy Baldwin Racing team averaged a finish of 26.8 in the five races leading up to Saturday's 500-mile contest. At Darlington, Annett has four NASCAR Nationwide Series starts to his credit, with a best result of 11th coming in 2010.

Passing above value... According to AthlonSports.com, Annett is a positive surplus passer so far this season. He is presently passing at an average efficiency of 2.48 percent above the expected efficiency output for a driver in his average running position, which ranks as the ninth-best value among all Cup Series drivers.

Bono's history at Darlington... Kevin "Bono" Manion, Annett's crew chief, has guided cars to six top-15 finishes at Darlington in eight races as a crew chief. His best showing came in 2010 with driver Jamie McMurray. Manion's car captured the pole and finished second after leading 71 laps.

The race airs live Saturday night, April 12 at 6:45 pm Eastern on FOX.

MICHAEL ANNETT QUOTE:

"At Darlington, the track is as much of a competitor as the other drivers are. You have to stay sharp - it takes a lot of focus to get around this place. Bono has had some good runs here with other drivers in the past and this TBR team has been making a lot of strides since the season started, so I'm excited to see what we'll be able to do come Saturday."
