Daley Joins Intek Adhesives/SGR Racing For Supersport Evo Campaign

THE Intek Adhesives/SGR Racing team has stepped-in at the 11th hour to run youngster Josh Daley in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship Evo class this season.

Daley will run under the Northumberland-based squad’s banner this year after inking a deal earlier this week with team manager and owner Steve Kinghorn.

Daley’s arrival means the team will now field three riders across three different classes when the 2014 season kicks-off at Brands Hatch over the Easter weekend. The team is also running Jake Bayford in the Motul Motostar British Championship and Jason Vernon in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship.

The 17-year-old from Wigan will ride a Kawasaki ZX6 in the series and makes the step up from a season in Superstock 600 last year. He had originally planned to ride with another team but the deal fell through. However, a chance meeting with Kinghorn earlier this month saved the day.

Steve Kinghorn explained: “We met Josh at the bike show in Manchester and he’s a great lad. Once we heard that things weren’t working for him as he’d hoped we decided to see if there was anything we could do. We spoke to some people to try and get some more sponsorship in to help get him out there and we’re now pleased to say we can get him on the grid for the start of the season.

“For me, it’s huge suddenly having three bikes out there. As a team we have always wanted to grow and this year we’d already moved into Superstock 600 and now here we are running a third bike in Supersport. I’ve always been a fan of how the Evo series looks and I have total faith in Josh that he can be a serious title contender.

“It was a big decision but I do believe it’s the right one. I work with young people during the week and my life and philosophy is all about giving youngsters a chance. This is what I’m doing now with Josh. He’s too good not to be riding this year so we’re doing everything we can to get him there. We are still going to be looking for further sponsors to come on board if we can get him through the full season, but we’re working hard to secure the budget. Josh is a really talented rider and will go far, and for us we couldn’t let him miss out. We’re expecting great things from him and I just hope we can secure the funds we need to run the whole season.”

Josh Daley added: “It’s good news to get sorted out with Steve and Intek Adhesives/SGR Racing team a week before the season begins. Luck never usually goes my way so it was quite a surprise for me. We thought we were going to have to run ourselves this year and so to get the chance to join a team is a brilliant. It’s pressure off me and my dad, and it’s great to be surrounded by other people who can help us.

“It’s the perfect news so close to the start of the season. I’m really excited about joining the championship. My aims are simply to qualify first of all, but then I want to get quicker and quicker so can be chasing top 10 finishes by the end of the season.”

The Motorpoint British Supersport Championship roars into action as part of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship over the Easter weekend at Brands Hatch, Kent.
