Ghiotto Takes P2 In Practice On His WSR Debut Weekend

The name of Luca Ghiotto shone today in Monza, where the F.Renault 3.5 championship is holding the first round of the 2014 season. The Italian track, renowned as the European "temple of speed", played host to an amazing performance by the Italian young gun who despite being at his debut in a WSR racing weekend was quick enough to close Friday's running in second place overall.

A stunning feat from Luca, who lapped the 5.8 km-long Autodromo Nazionale in 1'33"899, a performance that was just 0.168 shy of the fastest time of the day. Luca clocked his best lap in the afternoon Free Practice, after that the morning session had been devoted to long-runs in race trim.

Luca's competitiveness bodes well for tomorrow: as usual for F.Renault 3.5, Saturday will host both Qualifying, at 11.30 AM, and Race 1 at 4.30 PM.

Luca Ghiotto: S1 - P13; S2 - P2
"Even if it's only free practice, I have to say that being second really feels good. The team chose a good strategy for today, focusing on the 'boring' stuff in the morning: we did some runs in race-trim, with more fuel and a low downforce setup, and we lapped with just one set of tyres. That meant that in the afternoon we could focus on quick laptimes, and the timesheet shows that we did that pretty well. Now I hope to keep momentum for tomorrow's qualifying".
