In spite of stomach problems that have weakened him physically, Niccolò Antonelli closed the first day of practice with the sixth fastest time, 2’17”723, while his team-mate, rookie Enea Bastianini, entered the top ten with the ninth fastest time, 2’18”408.

Tomorrow the action will resume with the third and final practice session, followed by the 40-minutes qualifying session, which will determine the starting grid for the Grand Prix of the Americas.

NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (6th - 2'17"723)
“I am very happy, because last year I just couldn’t understand this track, but this year I was able to be fast straight away. I kept a good pace, either alone or together with the other riders, and I already know where I can improve ahead of tomorrow’s sessions. Unfortunately I suffered a stomach ache and in this moment I feel weak. I hope to feel better tomorrow”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (9th - 2'18"408)
“I'm satisfied because we did two really good practice sessions: in the morning the bike still had some problems, while in the afternoon the situation improved. First, I changed my riding style by watching at other riders’ lines, then we worked on the engine brake and we also made some other small changes to the bike. Something is still missing, because in some corners I still feel a bit of chatter, but we are definitely on the right way. Tomorrow we will try to improve even more, although it will not be easy”.

“It’s been a positive first day: although he wasn’t well physically, Niccolò managed to set a good sixth fastest time, while Bastianini scored a surprising ninth place, which honestly I was not expecting. Also Enea, moreover, was not in the best physical condition, having suffered a strong headache - probably he has not yet absorbed the jet lag. We are still working on set-ups, but all in all we are off to a good start. We hope first of all that the riders tomorrow can feel better physically and if we continue on this path we can definitely do well”.
