2014 NHRA: ProtectTheHarvest.com//Mavtv Rider Arana Ready To Race Four-Wide With New Engine

In only his second NHRA Four-Wide Nationals start, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Adam Arana is looking like an NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series veteran after making a solid qualifying attempt in Charlotte.

The ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell was one of only a few bikes to make more than two consistent qualifying passes throughout the entire weekend. With a pass of 6.900 seconds at 193.18 mph in Q2, Arana will start final eliminations from the No. 12 position and will face No. 4 Scotty Pollacheck, No. 5 John Hall, and No. 13 Jerry Savoie in the first round.

"Unfortunately, we broke a motor in Q3 and had to bring out a brand-new motor for Q4," Arana said. "Because of that, I really wasn't able to make a good pass for my last run. This isn't what we wanted to deal with at all this weekend. Now we're at a point where we don't know the potential of this motor.

"This season we're having crank issues again, and we don't know what the crank is really going to be like until we run. We're behind the competition and that's just frustrating."

Even though the youngest Arana isn't pleased with how his Buell has performed so far this season, he has reason to remain positive in only his second full-time season and second Four-Wide Nationals start.

"I really like this event," Arana said. "My reaction times haven't been too bad all weekend in qualifying. I'm really confident in my riding skills and am comfortable on the bike compared to where I was last year when I was a rookie.

"In regards to Sunday's final eliminations, I'm not worried about having a riding issue. I just don't know how my new motor is going to perform."

Arana will look to take home his first NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series win tomorrow when final eliminations at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals start at 12:45 p.m. ESPN2 will carry the action in tape delay beginning at 8 p.m., Sunday.
