Trial Victory And Lead For Toni Bou In Australia

The Repsol Honda Team rider secured the win in the second day of the Australian Trial and left the island as World Championship leader. Takahisa Fujinami finished sixth.

If yesterday it was Takahisa Fujinami who won in Australia, today it was his team mate Toni Bou’s turn. The several times champion won in the second day of the Australian Grand Prix that took place in Mount Tarrengower and, thanks to his second place yesterday, he leaves the island as leader of the Trial World Championship. His team mate at the Repsol Honda Team, Takahisa Fujinami, finished today in sixth.

After the low difficulty of the first day, the organizers raised today the level and modified half of the 14 zones. In this situation, Toni Bou showed his talent on the bike and set the lowest score in the three laps of the day. A result that took him to the highest step of the podium, gathering his 58th victory in the World Championship and taking the lead.

His team mate at the Repsol Honda Team, Takahisa Fujinami, suffered the pressure of being the leader –after his victory yesterday– and made some mistakes he was not able to recover, finishing the day in sixth. The Japanese rider is second in the overall standings of the World Championship.

The next World Championship round will be the Japanese Grand Prix, that will be held on April 26th and 27th. A round with very good memories for both Repsol Honda Team riders, as last year Bou won the first day and Fujinami the second.

Toni Bou 1st 7 points
"I’m much happier than yesterday, of course. Everything went better. Some zones changed and we thought that the trial would be more difficult, but it wasn’t too complicated. I only made 1 mistake in zone 13 during the first lap and then I was able to manage the race, though Adam was having a very good performance and we were very close. I got some valuable points in this Grand Prix".

Takahisa Fujinami 6th 69 points
"Today was completely different than yesterday. The trial had some zones that were more difficult and I started with bad results in zones 2 and 3. I was nervous because I could not get on the steps and I thought I would end with a lot of points on my card. I finished with 25 points in the first lap and I told myself I would be able to recover, but nothing went my way. To be sixth today and second overall is not bad, so the outcome is good in general. The next race is in Japan, the home race for me as well as for Honda and HRC. There might be more pressure, but I would like to win as I did last year".
