The Newest Graduates Of Nissan's GT Academy Competition Took Part In The First Round Of 2014 Blancpain Endurance At Monza

Draco Racing went close to scoring the first podium of their season today, after a sensational drive by Luca Ghiotto that saw the Italian youngster climb through the field from 8th on the grid to take a deserved fourth place finish. This time, unlike yesterday, Luca was amazing off the line and on the way to Turn 1 he chose to go right, on the inside. Doing so he passed four cars, and turned in the first chicane right on the tail of Sirotkin's car. From then on Luca was in full control of the race, lapping on the same pace as the leaders and keeping Gasly at bay. Ghiotto's staggering pace allowed him opened up a two seconds gap on the Frenchman early in the race, and to manage that margin with ease lap after lap, responding with a quick laptime each and every time his rival tried to get closer. 4th place overall meant also 1st place in the rookie classification for Luca, the icing on the cake of a great weekend. On the team's other car, Pietro Fantin boasted a great drive to finish in the top 10 despite oversteer issues on his car and a clutch issue at the start. After fierce fights with Martsenko and Merhi, the Brazilian talent crossed the line in 8th place, well into the points.

Luca Ghiotto: Q2 - P8; R2 - P4
"With today's start I made up for yesterday's mistake: I got off really well, taking the right and passing four cars. I nearly managed to take Sirotkin too, but he closed the door and we touched lightly, with no damage to the cars. From then on I just managed the race, keeping an eye on the gap to Gasly and trying to save my tyres. It was under control, I had some issues only at the beginning with the full fuel tank, but lap after lap the car got better and better. It's a great way to start the season, I want to say thanks to the team for the amazing job they did. Now I want more, I'm looking forward to Motorland Aragon".

Pietro Fantin: Q2 - P5; R2 - P8
"In qualifying the car felt good, much better than yesterday, but unluckily the track changed a lot for the race and our setup wasn't suited to the new conditions. I suffered from heavy oversteer for the whole race, and if you add a clutch issue at the start on top of that, you get a pretty frustrating race. Anyway it's just the first weekend of the season, I'm sure that things will be much better in Motorland".
