Expanded Presence for ZF in World Motorsport

2014 will once again be a massive season for ZF in motorsport, with an expanded presence in both domestic and worldwide competition.

Highlighting the local involvement is the push for a seventh straight V8 Supercar driver's title, with most of the leading contenders utilising SACHS shock absorbers, with many also relying on a SACHS carbon racing clutch.

Leading the charge will be SACHS brand ambassador Craig Lowndes, who in 2013 broke the all-time Australian Touring Car Championship win record, with his aim this year to break the magic 100 career victory mark.

Outside of the three tiers of V8 Supercar competition, ZF products can be found in many support category vehicles, including the all-new 991 model Porsche Carrera Cup Australia cars.

All vehicles in the field are fitted with both SACHS dampers and a triple-disc metal race clutch, with the package successfully debuting last season in the Porsche Supercup, which supports the Formula 1 World Driver's Championship.

With the new engine and chassis regulations in Formula 1, some things remain the same, with both the Scuderia Ferrari and Sauber outfits continuing to utilise ZF dampers, while the Lotus F1 Team use a ZF clutch.

In other top-flight competition, ZF will once again be supplying systems such as clutches and steering components to the factory prototype entries from Porsche, Audi and Toyota in the World Endurance Championship and Le Mans 24 Hours.

ZF meanwhile will be looking to defend the World Rally Championship crown with Volkswagen Motorsport, with the Polo R WRC the car to beat since its debut last year.

Once again all competing cars in the DTM will depend on a ZF clutch, with the control component this year to also be fitted to all Nissan and Lexus vehicles in the GT500 class of the Japanese based Super GT category.

In addition to supplying components to many GT based race cars from multiple manufacturers, for this season ZF has stepped up as an official series partner of the newly formed TUDOR United Sports Car Championship.

A merger between the American Le Mans Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series, the combined entity promises to provide strong fields consisting of a varied mix of prototypes and GT machinery.

For the TUDOR Championship, ZF will be offering trackside support for competitors from marques such as Audi, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche, as well as many of the Daytona prototype entries.

Showing the versatility of the ZF product range, the company in 2013 claimed its third straight FIA European Truck Racing Championship with Jochen Hahn, whose MAN is fitted with a ZF Ecosplit 3 transmission and ZF clutch.

In off-road heavy duty competition, trucks fitted with ZF systems filled the top five positions in the overall classification of the 2014 Dakar Rally, with the Kamaz entries featuring a ZF Ecosplit tranmission, clutch and steering, while Iveco utilsed a ZF gearbox.

ZF clutch and gearbox components also helped Hino Team Sugawara to a fifth consecutive victory in the under 10 litre truck division of the gruelling event.

This year ZF will also continue its commitment to categories such as the World Touring Car Championship, Formula 3, the VW Scirocco Cup, as well as various other open wheel and off-road categories.

Locally, ZF race products are available through Triple 8 Race Engineering, while all road car components are distributed by ZF Services Australia.
