2014 NHRA: Jack Beckman NHRA Four-Wide Event Report: First Round
One word you rarely hear coming from Jack Beckman is one that he has used too frequently on Sunday after losing in the opening round of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway near Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The most unique event on the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule on the world's only four-lane dragstrip produced a too common result for Jack and the Valvoline MaxLife Dodge Charger R/T team.
"We lost by .000. We just needed to do something one-thousandth of a second better," said Jack, whose last event title was in September 2012, a span of 33 events.
"It's frustrating. We made a good run and are headed in the right direction but our win light hasn't come on. At some point these decisions need to translate into win lights. It's frustrating for everybody.
"We're five races in and we haven't seen a semifinal yet.
"I'm optimistic. I think we have all the parts and the talent here to get this done. We need to get a better handle on the predictability of the car. Once we get that there isn't any reason why we can't be one of the quickest cars out here again."
