MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save Team Upbeat Ahead Of Donington Easter Weekender

The MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save Team head to the East Midlands this Easter weekend (19/20 April), for rounds 4, 5 and 6 of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Donington Park, in good spirits after a positive first outing at the series opener three weeks ago.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering run outfit is aiming high after taking six points scoring finishes at the Brands Hatch opener where the Swindon-powered MG6 GT’s showed impressive pace in the hands of two-time champion Jason Plato and BRDC SuperStar Sam Tordoff; challenging the reigning champion, Andrew Jordan as well as the rival works Hondas and customer BMWs at the front of the pack. This weekend should see further potential unlocked from the MGs at the 1.95 mile fast and flowing national layout, which will give opportunity for more of the teams winter developments to take effect.

Donington holds good memories for Jason and the MG6 GT, and in 2012 he gave the then new chassis its maiden pole-position.

Last season at Donington, Jason celebrated his 400th race start and this year he is aiming to add to his impressive BTCC record victory tally of 82 wins.

"Everyone is motivated after Brands. The team is confident coming into this weekend and the new aero package and dampers will come into effect more here; the faster circuits like Donington and Thruxton should see us get better and better. The championship is looking great this year and I’m looking forward to another competitive weekend."

After a difficult opening weekend that yielded three points scoring finishes and a fastest lap in race two, Sam is hoping to get his 2014 season firing on all cylinders at the Leicestershire circuit.

“Three point finishes and three good starts were what I took away from Brands. Donington is a very different circuit to Brands and it should suit our car a lot better; we’re heading there with some optimism. I think the field will be spaced out a lot more, but with the field that we have in the series this year, there won’t be any easy weekends. I want to be at the front and regularly on the podium, so Donington is important for us; we need to bag some solid points this weekend to get back in the fight for the championship and take the challenge to the BMWs and Hondas."

Triple Eight Race Engineering Team Principal, Ian Harrison added, "Donington is a proper circuit and one that we believe will show the true performance of the 2014 contenders, after the slow and medium speed corners of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. You’ve got corners here which are arguably some of the best in motorsport. We want to be at the sharp end of the grid in qualifying and hopefully challenging for podiums in the races. It would be great to head to Thruxton off the back of a positive weekend for both drivers.”

Live coverage of Sunday's events will be shown on ITV4, itv.com and also in HD from 10.30am, with itv.com featuring live streaming online of Saturday's qualifying session at 3:30 pm.
