Michela Cerruti Takes Fourth Place In Auto GP Opener At Marrakech

It’s been a positive weekend for Michela Cerruti at Marrakech, as the Italian female racer lined-up for the opening round of the 2014 Auto GP Series. Fielded by Super Nova, Michela proved quick and consistent since the first practice. Unfortunately, she was held up by a slowing car on her late flyer and forced to settle for 9th on the grid. Despite the starting position, “Miki” recovered up to fourth place, and without a safety-car procedure glitch, she could have even fought for the podium. The bitter note did not affect the positive outcome for the day.

The safety-car, which was brought on-track to remove some crashed cars, positioned itself in front of the wrong competitor, picking Sam Dejonghe instead of the leader. Then, when the drivers involved were allowed to get a wave-by, the Belgian racer failed to catch the tail of the leading pack, resulting in the loss of more than one minute. Once the race restarted, Michela cruised past Dejonghe and finished in 4th. In Race 2 then she captured a top-5 position at the last lap. Overall, Michela proved prepared to face the challenges of a street course, and also secured the 4th place in standings. A position she will try to improve this coming weekend at Le Castellet.

Michela Cerruti
“The weekend’s results are definitely positive in terms of performance, which was constantly improving. Super Nova gave me a good race car despite a gearbox problem that slowed me down a bit in Race 2. It was the first time for me on a street course and I had fun in taming 550 horsepower between the tight walls of Marrakech. Without the safety-car issue in Race 1 I could have fought for the podium, but I’m happy for how it went. I can’t wait to be back on-track in a few days at Le Castellet for the second round of the season.”.
