Sharp Raring To Go For Oulton Season Opener

Tom Sharp kicks off his 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship campaign this weekend aiming for a pair of top ten finishes from the annual Easter Weekend curtain-raiser at Oulton Park.

Sharp and the IDL Racing with CWS team return for their second season in the prestigious British motor-racing championship with high hopes for the campaign, having ended 2013 on a strong note with a breakthrough top ten finish in the season finale at Donington Park.

Since then, the team have been hard at work over the winter making improvements to their Ginetta G55 GT3, and a number of strong testing performances came to a conclusion with an impressive showing last week during the official championship launch day at Donington.

BRDC SuperStar Sharp and his team-mate Colin White once again showed the huge potential in the Ginetta by finishing fifth fastest out of the 28 strong field.

Sharp now hopes to convert that pace into some strong results at Oulton to kick off the season in style, and in the process lay to rest demons from twelve months ago when a dramatic fire on the opening weekend put them on the backfoot for the remainder of the season.

Tom Sharp: "I think it’s fair to say Oulton Park didn't exactly go to plan last season, so I’m looking forward to bouncing back this weekend with two top ten finishes at a circuit I really enjoy driving at.

"I've been quite impressed with the car through pre-season testing in terms of performance and reliability, and I think that was reflected in the times from the Donington launch. We definitely have the best chance ever to net some strong finishes.

“2014 is going to be a spectacular year in the British GT Championship, especially when you look at all the manufacturers involved, and even the personalities entered, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship is embarking on one of its biggest seasons ever, with a grid of over 35 cars set to take to the track at Oulton.

Eleven different marques will be represented, such as McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin and Bentley, with new driving additions to the grid including BTCC race-winner Tom Onslow-Cole and Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy.
