Only One Month Until The V8 Supercars Roar In The West

Drivers still need to take on the ITM 500 Auckland (24 to 27 April) before they head west for the Perth 400 at Barbagallo Raceway on 16 to 18 May. The Championship field is wide open with past V8 Supercars Champion Craig Lowndes currently leading ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Fabian Coulthard – but it really will be anyone’s round for the taking.

Local hero Garth Tander will be flying the flag for Western Australia as the only sandgroper competing in the Championship this year. In town last month for the launch of the Peth round, Tander said he was looking forward to racing at home.

“Barbagallo always provides really good racing, with the nature of the layout and the surface here being very low-grip you’ll see some exciting racing.”

“By the time we get to Barbagallo Raceway in May there’s still going to be different people having different strengths and weaknesses. There’s a level of unpredictability that makes it interesting for everyone and still that same level of competitive combat that we have on track every year.”

This year the Perth 400 has is a new SuperSprint Race Format consisting of two 100km races on Saturday, and a single 200km feature race on the Sunday. Around these races will be three national and two local support categories including Dunlop Development Series, Aussie Super Cars, V8 Utes, Super GT and Historic Touring Cars. Keep an eye on the sky for spectacular aerial displays from the RAAF.

There will be plenty for the whole family over the weekend. The Disney Fun Zone will be there for the Saturday and Sunday of the event from 10am-3pm, be sure to check out Mack the Truck plus your other favourite Cars characters along with exciting inflatables, Cinema Zone, Driver Training Track and merchandise. Plus the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy will gives fans the chance to ultimately become a full-factory Nissan Nismo driver!
