This weekend marks the return of the FIA Formula Three European Championship which not only features a whole host of competitive drivers but the emergence of a new team on the grid; Jagonya Ayam with Carlin. Gelael, Blomqvist and Giovinazzi all look to make their mark in the championship which has seen a number of drivers progress to the pinnacle of motorposrt; including 2013 race winner with Carlin, Daniil Kvyat who went to a Formula One seat with Toro Rosso directly from the FIA Formula Three European Championship.

The opening round of the championship, held in Britain and running alongside the World Endurance Championship, will see the three Jagonya Ayam with Carlin drivers racing together for the very first time. With their Volkswagen powered Dallara machines all in matching liveries the cars will cut a striking sight on track as they race against and with each other throughout the course of the championship.

Sean Gelael spent his pre-season testing working with his engineer in the run up to the season, focusing on a variety of set up components as well as race and qualifying runs. Gelael and Jagonya Ayam form the perfect partnership as they move into the 2014 season, with the young Indonesian bringing a huge amount of support and loyalty from his fan base.

Looking ahead to the first round Gelael said, ‘We’ve done a lot of preparation ready for the season, it’s been great to have that support around. The entire team have worked so hard already and I’m looking forward to the first race now so we can make the most of the pace. Everything about the car is going well, I’m enjoying driving it and liking the new engine. Now, I want to carry the momentum forward throughout the rest of the season which I know we can do so as a team we’re looking for a good result in the opening round.’

Blomqvist has experience racing in the championship; picking up three podiums in 2013 and finishing the championship in seventh overall. The British racer’s experience will be invaluable to the team as he looks to go one better this season and grace the top step of the podium. Speaking ahead of the first round he said, ‘I’m very excited to finally be racing this season again. Testing went well and I’m confident that we’re in good shape for a strong showing this weekend. We’ve done our best to make sure we are well prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. It would also be great for everyone back in Indonesia if we can put on a strong showing for our supporters and of course Jagonya Ayam on the teams’ debut.’

Giovinazzi enjoyed a strong year in the British Formula Three International Series where he finished as vice champion. Having run an assault in the FIA Formula Three Championship alongside his British campaign Giovinazzi focuses his attention fully on the European Championship for the 2014 season.

The Italian ended all four combined test days within the top three showing his consistency in the Formula Three car ahead of the season opener, he said of the opening round of the series, ‘Testing went really well for us and we were always in the top three so I’m hoping we can continue this into Silverstone which would be great for the team. They have been working very hard over the winter so I want to do this for them also. I can’t wait to start the weekend and see what happens.’

Friday morning will see the Jagonya Ayam with Carlin team take to the track for the first time at 09.00 local time for Free Practice 1.
