The race at the Paul Ricard circuit marks the début for the new Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione cars ready to compete alongside the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse and the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse cars starting from this edition. The first event of the season, like most of those to follow, is included in the WTCC platform and involves the official qualifying trials on Saturday, 19 April at 10:30 am and two rounds: the first on the same day, Saturday at 4.30 pm, and the second on Sunday 20 April at 2.15 pm.

The Trofeo Abarth Europa will be taking a big leap this year in terms of visibility because highlights of all the racing weekends will be broadcast on Eurosport1 and Eurosport2. A prominent stage that will be sure to provide plenty of visibility for Abarth across Europe: racing enthusiasts will be able to watch the best of the six Trofeo Abarth Europa events from 59 different countries with commentary in their own language.

The 2014 Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europa season consists of 6 events scheduled on the most important circuits in Europe. After the Le Castellet race, on May 25 in Austria at Salzburg, on June 22 in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps, on July 13 at Mugello, on September 28 at Pergusa and on October 26 at Monza.

Driving some of the new Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione cars - the most technologically advanced and highest performing racing car today - will be many of the Italian and foreign drivers of the previous editions of the championship. Among these is the reigning champion Alex Campani, who defends the Italian colours together with Luca Anselmi, Eric Scalvini, Jonathan Giacon, Manuel Buffoli and Emanuele Moncini, last year's winner from among the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse cars who switched to the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione this year. Standing out among the foreigners are the Portuguese Jorge Rodrigues and the Swede Niklas Lilja.

The new Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione guarantees exceptional and unprecedented performance thanks to the more powerful engine, the 1.4 T-Jet with different configuration (specific management software and timing) that changes from 200 to 215 HP at 5250 rpm, the reduction in weight down to 920 kg (20 kg less), the steel front suspension arms, the different engine cooling and intercooler layout, the new electrical architecture with control units relocated to the inside of the passenger compartment and windscreen with thermal defroster.

Participation of the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse cars is significant, with some young people making their racings débuts, like Kevin Giacon, the younger brother of Jonathan, who is taking on experienced pilots like Manuel Villa.

The contest between Michele Monetti, "Fisherman" and "Boga" in the 'Gentleman' category is interesting.

Also the Abarth hospitality van has been renewed for this edition. In line with the democratic spirit of the brand, it turns into a real meeting point between the drivers and the public. Free access to the pits, arranged individually for each participating team, will be an opportunity to share the excitement of the track before and after the race.
