King And Jones Take Points In Race Two At Silverstone

Jordan King and Ed Jones both took points paying finishes in race two at Silverstone today. The FIA Formula 3 European Championship drivers finished sixth and seventh respectively in a relatively uneventful race which saw little overtaking. Team mate and F3 rookie Jake Dennis crossed the line in 17th place.

As was the case in race one earlier today, King made a quick start to make up places off the line. From seventh on the grid, the Carlin man soon found himself in a wheel to wheel battle with Tom Blomqvist in the sister Jagonya Ayam with Carlin car as the pair fought for fourth place. Pushing hard, King did briefly move up to fourth, but was fifth again by the time the cars had completed their first lap.

Team mate Jones meanwhile had made up positions from ninth on the grid and was sixth behind King, running line astern with his team mate by the end of lap one. A fast starting Max Verstappen separated the Carlin pair on lap two though, relegating Jones to seventh. Dennis, in his second F3 start had kept his nose clean and was running in 17th.

As the race entered a steady rhythm, King was able to hold off the fast looking Verstappen. King bided his time to make another attack on Blomqvist though, putting his fellow Brit under plenty of pressure until running wide while trying to make a move towards the end of the race. That allowed Blomqvist to pull away and Verstappen to get close and with dirty tyres after running wide, King was powerless to stop the Van Amersfort driver getting past and relegating him to sixth place.

Jones completed a strong day with seventh place, having held off some pressure from Antonio Giovinazzi in the Jagonya Ayam with Carlin car behind him. Dennis meanwhile, still at the start of his learning curve in the championship, came home in 17th place.

King, Jones and Dennis will next be on track for the final race of the weekend tomorrow morning at 09.15.
