Rotek Racing Continues To Make Steady Progress At Donington Park

Robb Holland qualified 27th for the first of three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) races on tomorrow, Easter Sunday (20th April) at Donington Park.

The result fell a little short of Holland’s own high expectations, but Saturday’s short free practice and qualifying sessions marked Holland’s and his Rotek Racing Audi S3 saloon’s first sortie on the 1.96mile Donington Park circuit.

The eye-catching, Oakley Motorsports-backed car was unable to partake in official pre-season testing at the East Midlands venue in March and for Holland to go 24th fastest in both morning free practice sessions and find more than 1.1s in lap time between the two, represented a very credible effort, particularly given that the vast majority of the 31-car field has tested.

Hopes were high for further improvements in the all-important afternoon qualifying session, but it wasn’t to be.

Though Holland managed to record a lap time comparable to his best from the morning, it was only good enough for 27th on the grid.

“We had a good morning with the Oakley Motorsport Audi and made some progress with the car,” said Holland. “After that I was really hoping for a good qualifying, but it wasn’t to be. I thought that Brands Hatch last time out would be bad for traffic, but boy did we struggle to find a clear lap this afternoon!”

“I’m disappointed we didn’t, but were still learning with the car and still going forwards. I’m hopeful that we can get into the top 20 tomorrow. That’s certainly the aim.”

The first of three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races (Round 4) starts at 1137 tomorrow (Sunday 20 April), with Rounds 5 and 6 scheduled to begin at 14.27 and 17.15 respectively. All will be beamed live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4HD.

Alternatively, there will be live updates throughout the day on Rotek Racing’s twitter feed – www.twitter.com/rotekracing – and YouTube channel – www.youtube.com/rotekracing
