Volkswagen celebrated a good start to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Silverstone. In the first three races at the renowned junior formula series Tom Blomqvist (GB), son of former World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist, Jordan King (GB), reigning champion of the British Formula 3 Championship, and Max Verstappen (NL), son of ex-Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, claimed a complete set of medals for Volkswagen. Blomqvist, using the new purpose built racing Formula 3 engine from Wolfsburg, secured his first victory of the season in the first race on Easter Saturday. King was third to cross the finish line. On Sunday Verstappen finished second to claim another podium place. In the championship, Blomqvist is in third after three of 33 races, trailing by 13 points, Verstappen is in fifth. The next three races of the Formula 3 European Championship season will be held at Hockenheim from 2nd to 5th May.

British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)
Smith and Menu in the top ten three times

Árón Smith (GB) and Alain Menu (CH) celebrated three top 10 results in three races with the newly developed Volkswagen CC in the second round of the highly competitive British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season. Smith finished ninth in race one on the damp track at Donington Park. Alain Menu finished 13th in difficult conditions. In race two Árón Smith was the best-placed Volkswagen driver once again. While Menu was forced to retire early, Smith fought his way into eighth place. Alain Menu delivered the chase of the weekend in race three. The man from Switzerland worked his way forward from the back of the field, making up 20 places to finish ninth in race three – proving the competitive ability of the Volkswagen CC with a softer tyre compound. Team-mate Árón Smith finished eleventh.

Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia
Ignatov wins Russian Volkswagen Polo Cup opener in Moscow

Alexey Ignatov/Alina Kondratieff (RUS/RUS) won the first of nine Volkswagen Polo Cup rounds in Russia. At the fourth “Rally Masters Show” in Moscow, the duo in the 165 hp Volkswagen Polo, which conforms to the technical specifications of the rally class RC5, led the rankings early on and climbed onto to the top step of the podium after six special stages covering 39 kilometres. Vadim Lelyukh/Alexander Danilov (RUS/RUS) finished second. The final podium place went to a duo from Germany: on his guest start, Helmar Hinneberg (D), experienced rally co-driver and member of the Volkswagen Motorsport Meteo crew in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), navigated the German Journalist Reiner Kuhn into third place.

Volkswagen Racing Cup Great Britain
