Douglas To Sit Out Perth, Image On Lookout For Sub

Dunlop V8 Supercar Series regular Taz Douglas will sit out the third round of the 2014 championship despite a strong start to the new season.

The former V8 Supercar Championship series regular had been expected to be one of the title contenders this year, but despite sitting ninth in points, the Victorian has been forced to withdraw from Perth, leaving a vacant seat in the #10 Image Racing FG Falcon.

“It was all very last minute,” Image team-boss Terry Wyhoon explained, “and completely unplanned for, but something came up which has forced Taz to sit out the round. Hopefully he’ll be all sorted for Townsville, we’ll just wait and see, but as we’d arranged to go, had everything booked and the car prepped, our plan is to still go to Perth with the #10 car, and the #49 car of Jack Le Brocq.”

After finishing sixth in the overall points standings last season, Douglas came out fighting at Clipsal with a fourth and second placed finish. He then finished tenth in race one at Winton in conditions that had much of pit lane scratching their heads looking for the optimum setup. It may have been a setback, but the reverse grid top ten second race saw the former ‘main-game’ regular starting from pole for race two. Unfortunately a part failure on his out-lap forced him back into pit lane and a rear-of-field start which dropped him down the order despite working his way back to 27th at the flag.

“We always ‘life’ parts and strip the car back for maintenance after every round,” Wyhoon explained, “so retirements are rare, but on this occasion an axle had failed, so all we could do was effect a repair and get Taz back on track for more valuable championship points.

“It’s a pity we don’t have him in the car at Perth, because that’s one of his favourite tracks and we were strong there last year. In the end Taz was never outside the top ten and finished the weekend with a podium.

“It’s a tricky circuit to come to terms with, but after a couple of seasons heading across the Nullarbor, we’ve established a very good benchmark with the ex-Stone Brothers FG Falcon, and we’d like to take that opportunity and work with a driver to give them the wealth of that experience.

“It’s a terrific deal for the right driver, and it has the ability to provide that person with equipment good enough to battle at the front of the field.”
