New York Supercross Race A Pivotal One For Championship Hopeful Bogle

GEICO Honda rising star Justin Bogle enters the penultimate race of the 2014 Supercross season just seven points shy of the 250SX East points lead, making this Saturday's stop at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., a pivotal one in his quest for the title.

Despite the potential for a pressure-packed weekend, the kicked-back kid from Cushing, Okla., seems wholly unaffected by the task at hand, preferring instead to stick to the game plan that has delivered him one victory, two runner-ups, a pair of third-place results, and two more fifth-place finishes in seven starts this season.

"I'm feeling great," Bogle said. "We've had a little break since the last East Coast race (on March 29), so I've been able to recharge the batteries and make some improvements in my riding.

"All this championship stuff; I'm not going to get caught up in it. I'm just going to race like I have all year and do my very best to get good starts and try to win each heat and each race. The championship will play out how it plays out and hopefully I'm up there at the end of this thing."

Like his GEICO Honda teammates Eli Tomac and Matt Bisceglia, Bogle has been splitting his practice time between Supercross and motocross action to prepare for the upcoming outdoor season, which starts May 24, just three weeks after Supercross concludes.

"I love racing Supercross, and with the new venue this weekend I'm extra excited about getting back to it. At the same time, I've put in a lot of outdoor testing and ramped up my endurance training in the last few weeks to make the most of the downtime and to improve as much as possible in the short amount of time we had off. I'm ready to go."

Tomac, the reigning 250 motocross champion, always raced in the West before moving up to the 450 class this season, so this race not only gives him another chance to find the podium but offers an exciting trip to a city he's never visited before.

"I'm super excited about racing in New Jersey and having the chance to visit New York this weekend," Tomac said. "It's a brand-new event for all of us, but personally I can't wait to see the city and everything in the area. It's one of those places you have to see and I'm ready to check it all out.

"I know the fans are going to be pumped for this race and this area of the country is big for GEICO, so I expect we'll have a chance to visit with a lot of policy holders from that area. We only have two races left, so I plan on putting the big No. 3 bike on the podium."

Bisceglia returns from minor knee surgery to repair an injury suffered at the last 250SX East race in St. Louis. The Texan is fully recovered and anxious to prove himself before the season ends.

"I can't wait," Bisceglia said. "I think it'll be a great turnout and it will for sure be a fun race in that stadium. Watching the Super Bowl was extra cool this past year because I knew we'd be racing in the same stadium and now here we are. I still want to get on the box (podium). It's realistic; I have been training hard and that's where I feel like I belong.

"I'm also excited to go into NYC and look around."

FOX2 will carry the race live beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET, Saturday, with a rebroadcast on FOX1 at 4 p.m., Sunday.
