BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT

Aussie With Italian Roots: Briscoe began his racing career in 1993, at the age of 11, by competing in the Junior Yamaha Australian Championship. After his success in Australia, he and his family decided that in order to properly pursue a career in racing he would need to move to Europe. At the age of 15, he took off on his own to Italy to start his career. Briscoe became fluent in Italian and still speaks the language with his Italian manager, Max Angelelli.

New Fan Alert: The NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing garage had a very special visitor at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Dominic, guest of the Verizon IndyCar Series and avid racing fan, stopped by to meet Briscoe and take a garage tour. The 10-year-old had been diagnosed with ALS and was given the opportunity to meet all of his favorite drivers in Long Beach.

Partnering Up: The No. 8 car featured TNT, a Brazilian energy drink, as the primary sponsor at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. NTT DATA will resume its position as the primary sponsor at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. NTT DATA is the world’s sixth-largest IT services company and is the sole IT services partner for CGRT.

Wild Ride: Briscoe was signed to Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) in 2005 as a full-time driver, but after a season-ending incident at Chicagoland Speedway his Indy car racing career took a step back. Since his 2005 debut season he has raced with multiple teams, including a four-season stint with Penske Racing. Throughout his Verizon IndyCar Series career, Briscoe has collected seven wins, 13 pole positions and has led 1,430 laps. The 2014 season will be his first full-time season since 2012.

In The Offseason: While he became one of the newest additions to the CGRT family, Briscoe added a new member to his own family in the off season. He and his wife, ESPN broadcaster Nicole Briscoe, welcomed daughter Finley into the world in December.

Finding New Roads: All four Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) Indy cars are utilizing the Chevrolet 2.2-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine for 2014 season. The engine produces well over 600 horsepower and close to 300 lb. ft. of torque.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK

Ryan Briscoe and No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet

Remember the Time: Briscoe’s best finish at Barber Motorsports Park came in 2010, which was also the first year that Barber was added to the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule. He began the race in the ninth position and crossed the finish line in sixth. Briscoe would go on to place fifth in the final championship standings of the 2010 season.

Race Rewind: Briscoe finished 17th in the 40th running of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. He began the 80-lap race in the 18th position and had a clean takeoff in his first standing start in the Verizon IndyCar Series. The No. 8 car quickly moved up two positions to 16th in the first two laps of the race and made the first pit stop of the day for fuel and tires on lap 16. On lap 23, Briscoe reported mechanical issues with the car and was called in for his second stop of the day to change out electronics. The next two laps showed no improvements on the reported issue which forced the NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing crew to take the car back to the garage to diagnose the problem. The No. 8 TNT Chevrolet made its return back to the race on lap 43 which put Briscoe 20 laps behind the leader. The team saw their second stop of the day on lap 57 to change back to the original set of red tires. After multiple incidents throughout the race that caused many cars to retire for the day, Briscoe was able to gain back five positions and finish the race in the 17th position.

Road Warrior: Throughout Briscoe’s nine-year career in the Verizon IndyCar Series, he has recorded seven wins and has won 13 pole positions. Of his seven wins in the Verizon IndyCar Series, three have been on a road or street course. In terms of his 13 pole positions, six of those have been on a road or street course.

Practice Makes Perfect: Chip Ganassi Racing Teams (CGRT) Verizon IndyCar Series drivers Briscoe, Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, and Charlie Kimball tested at Texas Motor Speedway on March 16. The four CGRT drivers along with 14 other car/driver combinations battled strong winds and cold temperatures as they tested for the first time on an oval since the season began. The Verizon IndyCar Series will return to Texas Motor Speedway for the Firestone 600 on June 7 and will race on the first oval of the season at the 98th Indianapolis 500.

Briscoe On Barber: “We didn’t have a great race in Long Beach with the mechanical issues we were experiencing, but I’m ready to put that behind us and look forward to Barber this week. At the open test in early March we finished in the top five of the weekend, so I have a lot of confidence going back there now. I think that we really do have a fast car and when all of those pieces come together, we’re going to be hard to beat.”
