Reed Returns to Richmond for 'One Year Anniversary'

This Friday Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) rookie Ryan Reed returns to Richmond International Raceway (RIR), marking the one year anniversary of his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start.

Reed, driver of the No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang, visits the .75-mile track for the third time in his brief NNS career. In addition to his NNS debut, last fall, the 20-year old Bakersfield California native made his second start at RIR, earning his career-best finish to date of ninth.

When Reed returned to the track for his third overall NNS start in the fall, he qualified his No. 16 Ford 26th, but after a solid race, wheeled his Mustang into ninth by the time the checkered flag flew.

“Richmond is probably my favorite track I have been to so far,” said Reed. “I got my first Nationwide top-10 there, and also made my Nationwide debut at Richmond. I know we will be fast and think it’s a place where we can go for a top-five.”

In his six starts in 2013, Reed accumulated one top-10 and four top-15 finishes. The 20-year-old driver did not finish outside of the top-26.

This season, Reed is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year Honors, alongside RFR teammate Chris Buescher. Through the first seven races of 2014, Reed has collected two top-15 finishes and five top-20 finishes, with his season-best finish of 13th coming two weeks ago at Darlington Raceway. Reed currently ranks 10th in the NNS point standings.

After a weekend off, Reed and the NNS return to action under the lights at RIR on Friday, April 25. The 250-lap race airs on ESPNEWS at 7 p.m. ET.
