Luca Ghiotto Prepares For Qualifying In Alcaniz Free Practice

The World Series Renault 3.5 has approached its second round of the season: after the 2014 opener at Monza, the F.1 feeder series moved towards Spain and lined-up at Motorland Aragon in Alcaniz, the same track used for preseason testing. Vicenza-born Luca Ghiotto, who is fielded by Italian squad International Draco Racing, lined-up with the clear goal of repeating his qualifying and race day performances of Monza.

In today’s two practice sessions, he ended up respectively in 16th and 14th place as he was slowed down by some minor driving mistakes and set-up issues on his car. On the other hand, the pack proved incredibly tight in Spain. Luca was just half a second shy of the leader while all the cars were covered by almost 1 second. Another confirmation of the high-level nature of the championship, which features prospects coming from the all the F.1 junior programs (including the ones of Mercedes, Red Bull, Lotus, Sauber and Caterham). Qualifying 1 will go underway tomorrow at 10:20, followed by Race 1 at 14:30.

Luca Ghiotto – FP1 – P16; FP2 – P14
“In the afternoon we progressed compared to the first morning session when we had used some very old tires. There’s still a lot of room for improvement both with the car and the driving, as I made some small mistakes in every lap without putting all my best sectors together. Maybe the improvements aren’t so easily achievable as in Monza but we want to work hard and focus on the rest of the weekend, especially on tomorrow’s Qualifying 1”.
