Racing News - International Draco Racing prepares for Qualifying in Alcaniz Free Practice

It’s been a sunny day, although disrupted by wind, for the World Series Renault 3.5 at the Motorland Aragon track in Alcaniz. The Spanish venue welcomed International Draco Racing in the two practice sessions for round 2 and the Italian squad spent the day to prepare their cars for tomorrow’s morning qualifications despite some technical issues. In the morning session, Pietro Fantin suffered from a fuel pump problem and couldn’t experience valuable track time. So the Brazilian was forced to complete all the scheduled work in the afternoon. Luca Ghiotto ran for most part of the day on old tires, moving to sticker rubber just in the final part of the second session. Anyway, the pack proved incredibly tight with almost all the drivers being covered by one second, showing how it is small details that make the difference in such an high-quality championship. A top-flight battle is now expected for both Qualifying 1, scheduled for tomorrow at 10:20, and Race 1, which will be at 14:30 in the afternoon.

Pietro Fantin – FP1 – P21; FP2 – P17
“In the end, we’re satisfied. The fact of not having basically run during the morning session forced us to play a little bit of catch up in the afternoon, when we had to recover the ground lost. On-track, the wind makes things tough as it has an impact on how the car behaves, but we aren’t concerned by today’s positions. We know we are competitive. Now we still have to improve a little bit for qualifying which is going to be key. On this track is not easy to pass and starting in the highest possible position will be paramount”.

Luca Ghiotto – FP1 – P16; FP2 – P14
“In the afternoon we progressed compared to the first morning session when we had used some very old tires. There’s still a lot of room for improvement both with the car and the driving, as I made some small mistakes in every lap without putting all my best sectors together. Maybe the improvements aren’t so easily achievable as in Monza but we want to work hard and focus on the rest of the weekend, especially on tomorrow’s Qualifying 1”.
