Pilgrim (Boca Raton, Fla.) drove to a seventh place starting position for tomorrow afternoon's first of two races with a qualifying time of 1:24.837. Teammate O'Connell (Flowery Branch, Ga.) will start next to Pilgrim in eighth based upon his run of 1:24.889. Qualifying and practice were run in near perfect mid 70 degree temperatures at the 2.38-mile, 17-turn Barber Motorsports Park located just east of

Birmingham, Alabama. As suspected by the team, the FIA GT3 spec cars with their lighter weight and increased down force had the measure of the field today.

"The track got hotter and more slippery since this morning," Pilgrim said. "I think we have a reasonable race car. We will be suffering here a little. We have more weight, less tire and less down force to the competition. Obviously we are going to slipping and sliding around as the rest of the field has a little easier time of it. Johnny and myself are good racers, but we will have our hands full just to keep our qualifying positions early on in the race. We will have to use up the car to stay upfront. Mancuso (Nick, No. 16 Ferrari 458) got the pole, congrats to him, nice to see a new face on the pole. There is a lot of guys in front of us, some guys we know, some we don't know so well. I hope the field gets a clean start and we can race."

O'Connell also had his issues with the changing track conditions.

"The track really changed from our practice running," O'Connell said. "As a result of the heat in the track I had a loose car, tough to put the power down. As we expected the competition really took off in qualifying. We ran in the pack pretty much where we practiced this morning, so not a lot of surprises in qualifying. Andy and I have a lot of experience so we will need to get a good start and hope that the guys in front of us make some mistakes that we can capitalize on and move up. We have a mix of GT and GT-A drivers in front of us, so things could get exciting tomorrow afternoon."
Race one for the Pirelli World Challenge Series Barber Grand Prix presented by RECARO will go off on Saturday at 3:55 p.m. CT, with race two taking the standing start on Sunday at 10:40 a.m.
