AVF Enjoys Positive Eurocup F.Renault 2.0 Debut At Motorland Aragón

It’s been a learning weekend for AVF at Motorland Aragón, where the Spanish squad lined-up with three cars in the opening round of the 2014 F.Renault 2.0 Eurocup. AVF fielded three cars for the occasion, all of them featuring drivers at their first season in the championship.

The top performer of the weekend turned out to be Matthew Graham: the 17-year-old British racer, who won the 2013 BRDC Formula 4 Winter Championship, rounded out the top-10 in Race 1. In Race 2, he proved consistent again, battling at the front end of the pack until a contact relegated him in 18th. Roy Geerts, the reigning F.Renault 1.6 NEC Champion, recovered to 16th place in Race 1 before scoring 19th in Race 2. At his first open-wheel race, youngster Iñigo Bikuña delivered a solid improvement throughout the weekend. After finishing Race 1 in 26th, he kept climbing his learning curve in the series by taking 24th in Race 2.

Adrián Vallés
“For having been the first race in European competition and with three rookie drivers, it’s hasn’t been a bad race weekend at all. Graham was competitive all the time, making it to the top-10 in Race 1. In Race 2, he was doing the same until he tangled with Albon in the closing stages and lost positions. Geerts rebounded in the two races after the bad luck suffered in qualifying while Bikuna, who was making his open-wheel debut and only ran one day of testing, was off to a learning experience”.
