Dams, WSR, Round 2, Motorland

The new matador in FR 3.5 left the arena in Aragon under the well-deserved cheers of his public. Victory, another pole position and leader of the championship Carlos Sainz deserved the two ears in the Corrida. He also clinched a good result today (Sunday) although he was a bit slower by taking the points on offer showing a mature attitude. Norman Nato had two brilliant races, which were spoilt by poor positions on the grid. When he has overcome his qualifying problems DAMS will have the best pair of drivers in the field.

Sainz maintained his fantastic form over a flying lap and set his third pole on the trot - and the eighth consecutive one for DAMS - at Motorland Aragon on Saturday. After fending off an attack from Russian Martsenko at the start of race 1, the Red Bull protégé headed off into the distance to score a dominant win similar to his previous victory at Monza. The following day he wasn't in quite the same scintillating form, but still bagged the points that went with fourth place after starting fifth. Nato showed his talent and his fighting spirit through superb comebacks with a number of incisive overtaking moves on a circuit where passing is very difficult.

There is now a month's break before the next race on the legendary atypical Monaco circuit. It is the only event of the season where there is only a single heat so no way to make up for mistakes. This city layout requires the preparation of a car that's comfortable for the driver to give him the confidence to push to the maximum. DAMS doesn't have a great success record in the Principality and now's the time to turn that around.

François Sicard, Managing Director: "We're very satisfied with this weekend marked by another victory, another pole and Carlos taking over the lead in the championship. Bravo to the whole team who did a great job, and of course to Carlos who again showed his exceptional brio and his intelligence in the context of the championship. We're going to do everything we can to give Norman the maximum amount of confidence in qualifying. Given his performance in the races we can only imagine what he might do if he started in the top five, which is where he belongs. It'll be all the more crucial in Monaco where we're going to fight to give the lie to the statistics!"

Carlos Sainz: "This quite simply is a fantastic team; it always gives me an excellent car in which I can push really hard as I feel completely confident in it. Saturday's win was a just reward for them, but I'm disappointed with my Sunday. Even so I scored good points for the championship and I'll go to Monaco in a relaxed frame of mind. All the more so as I know that DAMS will again prepare a super car for me."

Norman Nato: "In terms of points it's a pretty meager result and my first point of the season is far from satisfying me. It's a pity for the team, which spares no effort, and for me as well. On the other hand, I'm pleased with my races as I've got the speed and I love pushing. I must find the key to qualifying, above ll in Monaco. I'm going to work even harder to achieve this."
