Podium Finish For Jack Harvey At Alabama Indy Lights Race

British racing driver Jack Harvey secured another Indy Lights podium finish at the latest round of the Championship in Alabama. Harvey’s second podium of the season means that the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) driver maintains third place in the 2014 Championship standings.

Harvey headed to Alabama after a strong fourth place finish at Long Beach for rounds three and four of the Championship. The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver endured a tough qualifying session on Friday. Having hoped to qualify in the top three, Harvey was struggling a bit for pace and had to settle for P5.

When the race went green on Saturday morning, there was trouble from the first corner when Chaves and Baron came together, shuffling both drivers to the back of the field. Harvey kept his nose clean and continued on in P3. Harvey pushed on hard throughout the race and after 30 laps of racing took the checkered flag and his second podium of the season.

For race two, Harvey had qualified in P4. The young Brit made a solid start to the race and his race pace was strong in the opening laps. However a small tyre problem in the latter stages of the race meant that he dropped down to P5 by the time the checkered flag had fallen.

“It’s been an encouraging weekend and it’s great to be leaving Alabama with another podium finish. It also means we head into the next race still maintaining third in the Championship which is a good position to be in;” commented Jack Harvey.

“Next up is Indianapolis which is a pretty special track. I’m really looking forward to racing there as it’s got a lot of history. Hopefully we can build on this weekend’s result and secure another podium finish;” commented Jack Harvey

2014 Indy Lights Championship standings:

(1) Zach Veach 181 points

(2) Gabby Chaves 172 points

(3) Jack Harvey 132 points

(4) Luiz Razia 132 points

(5) Alex Baron 118 points

The next round of the Indy Lights series will take place at Indianapolis on May 9th and 10th.
