Team Seattle-The Heart of Racing Taking it to Laguna Seca

Team Seattle is coming off a strong third place run in GTD at Sebring a month ago. Drivers Ian James (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Mario Farnbacher (Ansbach, Germany) are poised for another strong performance around the 11-turn, 2.2-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit. The newly formed team for 2014 has progressed at a steady pace up the field in the ultra-competitive TUDOR United SportCar Series GTD category.

"I have had some great moments at Laguna Seca.,but one race that sticks in my mind time and again is the Rolex GT race in 2005 passing my former BMW teammate and a former AJR driver Kelly Collins for the lead in Turn Six after he had been run off the road by a DP car," James said. "He is going through the gravel at 100 mph gesticulating out of the window with his left arm as I get a run on him up to the Corkscrew. Classic Laguna action."

"The Porsche still lacks a little compared to the mid-engine cars in the brake zones, but the team have been working so hard on the car since Sebring let's see what happens," he continued. "Our aspirations were always high for the season and with Mario as a teammate and the No. 23 crew guys I know we are a winning combination. Sebring just reinforced those views and I hope to have the Heart of Racing Porsche back on the podium where it deserves to be."

Farnbacher will be turning laps at Laguna Seca for the first time.

"I have never been to Laguna," Farnbacher said. "I have been studying videos and I have the data from past races from the team. Ian has a lot of laps there and our engineer Phil Pierce and the whole team has run there many times and won, so I am confident I will get up to speed very quickly.

"Our Sebring performance was a good step forward for sure," he continued. "We learned a lot about the car at Sebring and the team worked pretty hard over the last weeks to improve the car again. We have a lot of confidence going into this weekend."

Alex Job, team owner, likes the way the team has progressed.

"Team Seattle has a lot of new elements," Job said. "Ian and Mario are still getting to know each other, but Sebring was certainly a great result this early in the schedule. With the support of Gabe Newell and Don Kitch everything is really coming together. Ian has a lot of laps around Laguna Seca and will provide a great sounding board for Mario, who has great natural speed. We are looking to take another step forward this weekend."

The TUDOR Championship next heads west to Monterey, Calif. May 3-4 for the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The race will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 starting at 1 p.m. ET.

This weekend's race will be unique as IMSA has adopted split races. The GTD and LMPC cars will race at 10 a.m. PT with the GTLM and Prototype cars running at 1 p.m., both running two hour events. The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will travel to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca May 3-4.
