Six Erc Sata Rallye Açores Stages For Live Television Coverage

One of the most spectacular events on the FIA European Rally Championship calendar will be produced for live television broadcast by Eurosport Events, the ERC promoter, with six stages shown as they happen.

SATA Rallye Açores, which takes place on the picturesque Atlantic archipelago from 15-17 May and counts as round five of the ERC season, will be shown live on Eurosport, RTP Açores and on Fiaerc.com, the official ERC website.

Eurosport and RTP Açores will simultaneously broadcast the two runs of the Sete Cidades stage on Friday 16 May and the two passes of the Tronqueira stage on Saturday 17 May. The final Tronqueira test will mark the deciding stage of the ERC qualifier. Meanwhile, the two visits to the Feteiras stage on Friday’s opening leg will be streamed live on Fiaerc.com.

Taking place around the rim of a volcanic crater lake measuring five kilometres in diameter, Sete Cidades is considered one of the most stunning stages in international rallying. Located in the far west of the island of São Miguel, the 23.97-kilometre stage presents a huge test for drivers, who negotiate the narrow, twisting gravel tracks at high speed. With drops of 400 metres to the water below, there is quite simply no margin for error.

While Sete Cidades represents the sensational, the 21.28-kilometre Tronqueira stage showcases São Miguel’s lush countryside with a mixture of tree-lined sections and undulating stretches adding to the challenge for competitors as well as the spectacle for television viewers. Feteiras, meanwhile, is one of the rally’s shorter stages at 7.54 kilometres in length. It’s located north of the village of the same name and just south of Sete Cidades. It combines twisty and more open sections and provides another tough test for the crews.

“Working in conjunction with Francisco Coelho and his event organising team, we selected the Feteiras, Sete Cidades and Tronqueira stages for live broadcasting because of the spectacular countryside they pass through and the stunning images this will create,” said Gilbert Roy, Director of Editorial, Eurosport Events. “São Miguel’s scenery is quite simply incredible and truly spectacular, while Sete Cidades is the most beautiful place I’ve encountered in rallying. As we have seen before, São Miguel’s beauty and the serious competition ahead in the ERC will ensure some truly spectacular coverage.”
