GB Autosport and Tully's Coffee Eager for West Coast Run

GB Autosport is eager to return to race action at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca following a month-long break in IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship competition. The team utilized the weeks following the Sebring 12 Hour to prepare, and enters the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix powered by Mazda event with added confidence following a productive test earlier this month.

Two grueling endurance races - the Rolex 24 At Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring - opened the 2014 Championship, and the Tully’s Coffee-sponsored team is looking forward to making a quick adaptation to the sprint race format as a two-hour race is set for the third round of the TUDOR Championship. Damien Faulkner and Bob Faieta will will again share driving duties behind the wheel of the No. 81 Tully’s Coffee Porsche 911 GT America as regular pilot Michael Avenatti has business commitments that will keep him from racing this weekend.

GB Autosport has continued to grow strength in the TUDOR Championship. The team raced to the checkered flag at Daytona and Sebring despite having to fight back from some unlucky setbacks in both events. Electrical issues ahead of the Sebring qualifying session saw the squad start from the back of the pack, only to rally forward and score a top-10 result on the bumpy and challenging circuit.

The team took advantage of the break between races and completed a successful test earlier this month. The track time not only afforded the first year team to continue to gel as a group, but it also provided another opportunity to continue to learn the nuances of the all-new Porsche GT America platform.

“This was the first test for the whole team,” said Faulkner following the test. “This was a crucial test which has laid proper foundations for the upcoming races. I believe we will be stronger as a unit which will help us adapt to the challenges that lay ahead. The first two events involved massive emphasis in regard to strategy and perhaps a little less on sheer speed. It’s role reversal now at Laguna with the two hour race. I like both types of race formats, and both have their own unique difficulties. In terms of approach, for me, when I get aboard the car after Bob’s stint, it will be a sprint to the line on maximum attack.”

In addition to their forward momentum and positive spirits, both Faulkner and Faieta bring a healthy amount of experience to the 2.238-mile circuit. Faieta, who has earned championships behind the wheel of Porsche machinery and was part of the team’s Rolex 24 At Daytona and Sebring 12 Hour efforts, calls California home and has raced countless laps on the track through the years.

Faulkner drove to fourth place in his Indy Lights debut at the track and most recently scored the pole position in 2012 while competing in the American Le Mans Series.

“Mazda Raceway is a track that I know well from my Indy Lights days,” said Faulkner. “It’s a stunning venue – very pleasing to drive with its own unique characteristics and peculiarities. I think everyone enjoys the track and the surrounding area too.”

The race event will be a quick one for GB Autosport, with just one day of practice ahead of race day. The green flag will fly for the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda at 1:15 PM (ET) on Sunday May 4th. The race will be aired live on FOX Sports 1 starting at 1:00 PM (ET).
