2014 Talladega: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Drafting at Dega...Justin Allgaier will be making his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend in the Aaron's 499. Talladega is one of four tracks Allgaier raced the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy at in 2013. In his first NSCS start at the 2.66-mile superspeedway, Allgaier started 35th and finished 24th in the fall race. Allgaier also has five starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) at Talladega, with a best finish of fifth in spring 2013.

See Justin...On Sunday, May 4 at 9:05 a.m. CDT, Allgaier will appear at the Chevy Stage, located in the Talladega Fan Zone, for a Q&A.

Richmond Recap...Allgaier made his first NSCS start at Richmond International Raceway last weekend. After two smooth practice sessions, qualifying was rained out and Allgaier started 31st in the BRANDT Chevy. Allgaier was running 12th late in the race when he got into the marbled upper groove of the track and slipped back to 23rd. He ultimately finished 21st in the BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet for HScott Motorsports.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Richmond, Allgaier is currently third in the standings behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Talladega Superspeedway:
"I'm excited to get back to the track after our run at Richmond [International Raceway]. Obviously, Talladega [Superspeedway] is a completely different track than Richmond, but my HScott Motorsports team gained a lot of confidence after that race. We have great superspeedway cars from Hendrick Motorsports, so I know we will be fast off of the truck. The key to this weekend is finding drafting partners in the race and being there at the end."

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Talladega Superspeedway:
"Talladega [Superspeedway] is always a crapshoot. There's not a lot that we can do during the practice sessions to adjust on the car. Everything is done back at the shop for restrictor plate races. How the car comes off of the truck, is pretty much what we will have. It will be important for Justin to stay out of trouble during practice and qualifying because aero is so important on these cars. We had a great weekend last week at Richmond, and hopefully that momentum will carry over to this weekend."

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former Nationwide Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
