Nurburgring GT Open Season Opener To Mark Ombra Racing's 20th Anniversary

The maiden round of the 2014 GT Open campaign in Nürburgring won't be a race weekend like every other for Ombra Racing. To the Italian team, the German race will be much more than a simple season opener, as it will mark the outfit's 20th anniversary.

Such a milestone in the team's history will be achieved on Saturday, the day that will host Race 1 on the renowned German track. On that day, 20 years will have passed since 3 May, 1994, the day Ombra Racing was founded by a group of passion-driven men who wanted to fill their lives with motorsport.

Success was the word right from the begining of Ombra's 20-year long stint, as the team clinched their first wins straight out of the box. Back-to-back F.Junior titles for Gianfranco Colleoni and Davide Mazzoleni, driving the advanced MP-01 single-seater designed by Massimo Pollini, were just the beginning of an adventure that throughout the years has seen the team grow bigger and enjoy success in many different championship. The F.Junior wins were followed by titles in F.3, Euroseries 3000, Auto GP, accolades that were enriched by strong performances in top-notch scenarios as the Macau GP and A1GP.

The latest chapter in Ombra's book of racing is called GT Open, a series that the team is embracing for the third year in a row, once again with two Ferrari 458 GT3. The team has already enjoyed a great deal of success with cars bearing the Prancing Horse, and in the season that marks their 20th anniversary the whole staff are ready to give their best to add even more success to the team's CV, fighting for the title till the end of the season for a proper celebration. The same goes for the drivers: Mario Cordoni and Stefano Gattuso on the #62 car and Stefano Costantini and Alan Sicart on the #63 Ferrari will give everything they have to bring home the GTS crown. To do that, they'll have to overcome strong competition from a field that includes the very best of GT racing, but together with the team they have what it takes to succeed.

Davide Mazzoleni (Team Manager): "It's hard to find the right words for the moment when you realize that your enterprise is already 20 years old. We achieved a lot in that timespan, but more importantly we did that keeping the same men at the core of the team, something that is really rare in motorsport. We're proud to be more a family than a racing team, a group where words aren't needed to understand each other, and I'm pretty sure that this one of the key ingredients in our receipt for success. That said, we know that this anniversary is just a little accomplishment in a very long path. Many pages still have to be written, and we will do it with the same passion and hunger for success that fueled us 20 years ago. The difference, and it's a big one, is that we now have that experience behind our backs, and we are ready to make the most of it to give everybody an hard time, starting right from this weekend".
