Tim Bell Set for Super Trofeo Debut

Tim Bell Racing returns to race action this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and it will be a big weekend for team owner and driver Tim Bell. Not only will he once again join forces with co-driver Dane Cameron in the No. 28 Tim Bell Racing Nissan 370Z Nismo in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, but he will also make his debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series driving for Mitchum Motorsports.

Adding to the excitement ahead of the event, the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix weekend will mark a homecoming for Bell, who made the move to North Carolina from California to oversee the operations of his race team. Bell is eager to return to his home state of California to a track where he has logged plenty of laps.

Bell will look to use his range of experience on the 2.238-mile Californian road course to his advantage since the Lamborghini Super Trofeo event will see him racing the high horsepower exotic machine for the first time. It will be a busy weekend for Bell, who will have two opportunities for race action in the car as the two 50-minute races are scheduled in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo cars, which are powered by a 570-horsepower V10 engine and feature permanent four-wheel drive.

Having raced with Mitchum back in 2012, the squad knew about Bell’s home field advantage as they looked ahead to the Laguna Seca round, earning him a shot in the one-make series with the team.

“It was great to have Chris (Mitchum, team owner) reach out to me about driving for them in Super Trofeo,” said Bell. “I’ve kept in touch with him over the years, so it was great to get that invitation back and I'm hopeful that I can repay that faith with a podium finish. I’ve never driven the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, so I will have a lot to learn, but I will just take it in stride and learn what I can each session!”

It has been over a month since Tim Bell Racing’s last race at Sebring International Raceway, but the team has been hard at work over the break preparing for the upcoming race events and has just completed their seventh day of testing in the No. 28 Nissan 370Z Nismo.

“We’ve been working very hard during this ‘off time’ and we hope to have worked all the bugs out and can just focus on the set up of the car this weekend,” said Bell. “I’m really happy with how much progress we’ve made with the Nissan 370Z Nismo and to be heading to Laguna where Dane Cameron and I can put what we’ve learned to good use, I’m just really excited. This is such a great event for me. I always love coming back home to California especially at a track where I have spent so much time racing. I’ve done a lot of laps around Laguna Seca and hopefully we can bring home that big result in front of family and friends that will be in attendance this weekend.”

The IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series will take to the track on Thursday for a promoter test day and then for an official practice day on Friday.
