Cape Motorsports Barber Recap: USF2000

Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing had a busy day at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend with the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda running both races on Saturday. Overall, it was a good weekend with two podium finishes and a pole.

In the qualifying session for Race 1, Frenchman Florian Latorre qualified the No. 10 machine in pole position. American Jake Eidson, driving the No. 2, was third, and German Keyran Andres Soori, driving he No. 3, qualified 15th. In the opening lap, eventual Race winner RC Enerson got the jump on Latorre and was able to him off. In the end the Cape trio settled for a 2-3-14 finish.

Only a couple hours after the checkered flag the drivers lined-up again for the second race of the day. Latorre started sixth, Eidson started seventh and Soori started 14th. It was a clean race for all three young drivers, but being in traffic slowed their paces. Latorre finished fifth, Eidson eighth and Soori 15th.

β€œTo say it was a busy day was probably a bit of an understatement,” said team owner Dominic Cape. "We were obviously pleased with the finishing positions of Race 1, unfortunately Enerson went really early, way before the official starting zone, and that was the race. Florian had an issue with a fuel problem, which hurt his lap time for Race 2, Jake drove a good race, and Keyvan has improved immensely over the weekend having never driven here before. I think if we had better starting positions, we would have had stronger finishes in Race 2. Overall, we were very pleased with our drivers and crew. Big thank you to all our crew for their hard work.”

In addition to USF2000, Cape Motorsports also had two drivers (Neil Alberico and Scott Hargrove) competing in the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires at Barber Motorsports.

After the first four rounds, Eidson and Latorre are tied for second in the point standings, 41 points behind Enerson. Soori is 12th. Cape Motorsports is second in the team point standings, only 15 points behind the leader.

The team and drivers will next be on track May 9-10 at the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit, a 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course.
