The 21-year-old is adapting to the much higher track temperatures from winter testing, but already the data is showing marked improvement since his last visit to the circuit. Today’s fastest lap was set by local rider Esteve Rabat with the top 20 fastest riders covered by under a second.

Tetsuta Nagashima, Teluru team JiR Webike rider: best lap 1m 45.855s

“Track temperature today was very different from testing – it is so very much hotter! So I didn’t have the same feeling with the bike as I did back then, but I didn’t feel too bad on the track and the data we have recorded shows I’ve improved my riding style. I did choose the wrong tyre today and also had a technical problem so I was not able to complete the last session so I did not improve my time. I now know the difference between these conditions now so tomorrow we will set up the bike more to suit them. My aim for the weekend is to get into the 1m 43 second bracket. Let’s hope for good progress tomorrow.”
