Best Qualifying Of The Season For Schrotter And Cardus

The Tech 3 Racing Moto2 team celebrated a fantastic double coup in qualifying today with Marcel Schrotter and stand-in rider Ricky Cardus securing hard fought qualifying positions inside the top 15 for tomorrow’s 26-lap race in Jerez.

The weekend has been a testing one so far due to the severely high track temperatures, which exceeded 50° degrees for both days so far. Marcel Schrotter persevered and after riding competitively over the weekend, he powered over the finish line aboard his Mistral 610, to claim 9th and his best qualifying position so far this season, and on the 3rd row for the Grand Prix. The German rider’s best time was only 0.7 of a second behind the leading Moto2 bike and showed a huge leap in performance for the Tech3 Mistral 610, which was over two seconds quicker than last year’s best qualifying time. Schrotter intends to score another top ten position for the Tech3 Racing team to add to his growing tally of points in the championship standings.

Ricky Cardus also completed a positive qualifying session around the 4332-metre circuit and will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix from 14th position, after finishing with a time of 1.43,648 and only a second from the top of the timesheet. The Spanish rider, who has been running impressively in the Moto2 class for the Tech3 Racing Team over the first four races, hopes to once again collect world championship points as he continues to replace the recovering Alex Mariñelarena.

“I am very pleased with the results, even if the Qualifying today was quite tough. To walk away with 9th place is good news and means I can really attack tomorrow. Having said this, I feel I could have gone a little faster and been closer to the front. The conditions were very unlike this morning’s with the changing temperature making a big difference. Because of this I didn’t feel as confident as I did in FP3, so it took a bit more time to get into a good rhythm and set some fast laps. The weekend as a whole is going really well so far, and I hope to top it all off with a strong result tomorrow. I have practiced a lot of starts, and feel more confident with them now. My plan is to stay with the front group, and then score another top ten position for the Tech3 Racing Team.”

Ricky Cardus - 14th - 1.43.648:Ricky Cardus - Jerez 2014

“Today was the best qualifying position I have had on the Mistral, but I feel that I could have been a bit faster. This track is not an easy one for me, and I was not too confident with the feeling of the front of the bike. However, I am certain that an improvement can be made during the race and that I am able to achieve a good result for the team. Once again, I want to thank them, as every practice session they have encouraged me to go faster and have really given me a lot of confidence. Tomorrow will be a difficult race, but the main thing I want to do is to enjoy it and score some points.”
