Bruno Junqueira Captures Second Straight Prototype Challenge Pole Position for RSR Racing

Bruno Junqueira captures the Prototype Challenge class pole position for the Continental Tires Grand Prix Powered by Mazda with a lap time of 1:19.7234. The record setting lap around the 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca gives the Brazilian driver and RSR Racing their second straight top starting position in as many races.

RSR Racing teammate Duncan Ende will join Junqueira in the 09 LinospressoUSA.com ORECA FLM-09 as they battle for their first victory of the 2014 TUDOR United Sports Car Championship season.

Junqueira is pleased to capture the team's second pole position of 2014 and looks forward to race day.

"I love this track and am very happy to be on the pole," declared Junqueira. "When you have a fast car here it is a lot of fun and I am excited for the race. The team did a great job with the car, the balance was perfect for qualifying."

The 08 AutoMaxUSA.com ORECA FLM-09 will role off fifth after Alex Tagliani set a qualifying lap time of 1:20.568 at an exact speed of 100 mph. The duo of Tagliani and Chris Cumming look to turning the young season around and stand atop the podium after the two-hour event in the hills of Monterey.

Although not the qualifying speed that Tagliani was looking for, the Canadian driver knows the car will be strong for the race.

"We were quite good in practice one and made some changes for qualifying that unfortunately didn't improve the car," said Tagliani. "We're going back to our original set-up and should be in great shape for the race."

IMSA has split the field for the Continental Tire Grand Prix of Monterey with forty Prototype Challenge and GTD cars taking the green flag at 1:15pm Eastern Time. Live coverage of the two-hour event will be on Fox Sports 1 starting a 1:00pm Eastern.
