2014 Talladega: Dylan Kwasniewski NASCAR Nationwide Race Recap

Dylan Kwasniewski's first-career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Talladega Superspeedway did go as hoped, as the young 18-year-old rookie got caught up in a four-car accident on lap 44, relegating Kwasniewski and the No. 31 Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet team to a 35th-place finish. Kwasniewski and his Turner Scott Motorsports team had speed right off the truck on Thursday afternoon, running the 13th-quickest lap time among the field during the first practice session of the afternoon. Content with the Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet, the No.31 team sat out the final practice session of the day. Kwasniewski then tackled NNS "knockout" qualifying on Friday afternoon, earning the 28th starting position for Saturday afternoon's shootout. On a picture-perfect afternoon, the 40-car field took the green flag and Kwasniewski settled into the top 20 until the first caution of the day came out on lap 29. During the caution, crew chief Pat Tryson called Kwasniewski down pit road for four tires and fuel. After the restart, Kwasniewski was running in the 23rd position on lap 44 when he was collected in a four-car accident in Turn 4. Unable to return to the race, Kwasniewski was credited with the 35th-place finishing position.

"What a tough day. My guys at Turner Scott Motorsports work so hard to build me great cars every weekend, and we can't seem to catch a break. Talladega is a fun race track and I really enjoyed myself out there. We had settled into the race and were trying to stay patient, knowing it was a long race. Unfortunately, we just got caught up in the wreck in Turn 4 and had no place to go. We will take the off week to regroup and come out strong in Iowa."

What's Next - The NNS has a one-week break before heading to Iowa Speedway on Sunday, May 18th for the Get To Know Newton 250. Live television coverage begins at 2:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
