Michela Cerruti Faces Tough Weekend At Budapest

It’s been a tough weekend for Michela Cerruti at Budapest. The Italian female racer, driving for Super Nova, completed the two scheduled races after having enjoyed positive run in Qualifying that resulted in a fourth place on the grid. The first two practice sessions were held with a dry asphalt, like happened for Q1. In Q2, an heavy rainfall disrupted the activities and a red flag condition neutralized the running for almost one hour. Despite driving on slicks, Michela did a great job in setting a quick early mark, good enough for a spot on the front rows.

Once the session got back underway, Michela went on-track with rain tires, but despite improving in the first sector, she went off-track in the second one. Race 1 was held in dry conditions and Michela was off to a very good start. Unfortunately though, a pit miscue compromised the whole running when team-mate Pommer entered the pits in the wrong lap. Michela was forced to wait the end of his pit-stop, losing more than one minute. At that point, nothing could be made, and she found herself at the back of the pack.

Michela started Race 2 in 10th, but the team decided to opt for a wet-weather set-up, a choice that did not pay its dividends. With the track getting dry and despite the slick tires, the car proved extremely tough to tame.

“If the weekend finished Friday, I would be the happiest person alive. Despite a mistake, that happened while pushing hard and which I accept because it means I’m getting more and more in touch with my car, practice and qualifying went really well even in tough condition. Unfortunately, in Race 1 the pit-stop melee jeopardized not only my race, but also the entire outcome of the weekend for the team. On Sunday, we tried to go for a risky solution that did not pay off, but we were forced to this because of our starting position. With a better spot, we would have been more conservative. Now I will focus on my GT program. In three weeks, I will line-up in the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone”.
